District Level NCORD Committee Meeting Held in DAC Namchi, Encourages Holistic Approach to Combat Drug Menace

Namchi, 2nd August(IPR): The District Level Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) Committee Meeting was convened at DAC Namchi, today. DC (Namchi) Mr. M Bharani Kumar chaired the meeting alongside Sr. S.P. Dr. Tsering Namgyal Gyatso, NMC Councillors, and officials from various line departments. The meeting focused on addressing the alarming issue of drug abuse in the district and devising a collective strategy to combat this pressing challenge.
DC (Namchi) Mr. M Bharani Kumar spoke about the prevailing drug scenario in the district. Emphasising the urgency of the matter, he stressed the need for a comprehensive approach involving all concerned departments.
Sr. SP Namchi, in his address highlited the dangers of substance abuse. He further encouraged for a collaborative effort by the society and all line departments as to combat this menace. Additionally, he spoke about the misuse of cannabis plant which are grown particularly for medical purpose and called for effective awareness. Moreover, he urged all members to report any involvement in drug-related activities within their departments.
During the course of the meeting, the officials from education department were urged to take pro-active measures in educating students about the dangers of substance abuse. Furthermore, he informed that sensitisation programmes would be implemented for all Head of Institutions and students, focusing on drug abuse awareness and law, incorporating multiple phases of training and educational sessions.
Drugs Inspector, Mr. Lakpa Sangay Sherpa, informed the gathering that regular inspections of pharmacies have been conducted every six months, with 45 registered pharmacies in the district. He also emphasised adherence to the NCPCR norms and guidelines on drugs.
During the committee discussion, it was directed that the pharmacy inspections will be conducted on quarterly basis and also suggested that representatives from Namchi Municipal Council will partake during the inspection.
