District Task Force Immunization Meeting Addresses Key Healthcare Initiatives

Namchi, 27 September (IPR): The meeting shed light on several significant healthcare initiatives aimed at improving the health and wellness of the district’s residents.
The meeting was chaired by DC(Namchi) Mr. M. Bharani Kumar. Also present were CMO Namchi Dr. S N Adhikari, DSO Namchi Dr. Urgen Sherpa, DRCHO Dr. B.K Chauhan, DQAC Mickyla Lepcha, CDPO Laxuman Tamang, along with other officials from various concerned departments.
Dr. Urgen Sherpa emphasised his presentation’s inclusion on the official agenda, which has received approval from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India for multiple consecutive years in a row. The central themes revolved around the creation of Urban Health & Wellness Centres (UHWCs) and Block Primary Health Units (BPHUs) around the district.
The discussion extensively covered strategising and establishing BPHUs and UHWCs, taking into account factors such as population, location, geographical areas, and other relevant considerations. Additionally, a detailed presentation of the architectural plans for the UHWC and BPHU structures was provided.
The meeting also involved a comprehensive exploration of problems, issues, and challenges in this context.
Dr. B.K Chauhan shared insights into the progress of the Intensified Mission Indradhanush 5.0, with the completion of the 1st and 2nd phases. In the first round which was held from August 7 to 11, 2023, it was aimed to reach a total target of 36,669 individuals, and successfully administered 36,254 doses of albendazole to students aeging 1 to 19 years through Schools, AWC and out-of-school childrens. During the second round from September 11 to 16, 2023, the target was 33,814 individuals, and administered 34,722 doses of albendazole.
The upcoming 3rd round, scheduled for 9th to 14th October, is currently in the microplan preparation phase, set to be completed by 3rd October, with submission to the state due by 6th October.
Ms. Mickyla Lepcha, District Quality Assurance Consultant cum ANS, presented her findings, which covered a range of topics and issues. These included the assessment of National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) for the Financial Year 2023-24, the promised services at Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centres and the LaQshya baseline assessment of District Hospital Namchi. The assessment highlighted major gaps observed in the labor rooms and Maternity O.T of District Hospital Namchi.
Notably, the meeting also acknowledged the selection of HWC-SHC in Damthang, Mamley, and Maniram Bhangyang as aspirational blocks.
Furthermore, the DC actively engaged in discussions with representatives on various relevant healthcare matters, ensuring a comprehensive and coordinated approach to improving healthcare services in the district.
