Final day of the three-day-long Jorethang Maghey Sankranti Mela 2023

Namchi, 17th Jan (IPR): The final day of a three-day-long Jorethang Maghey Sankranti Mela, themed “Vocal for Local” and “Hamro Sanskriti Hamro Parampara,” organized by the Jorethang Maghey Sankranti Mela Committee began with a burst of energy and a vibrant atmosphere at Jorethang playground, today.
The program commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamps by the esteemed Chief Guest, Shri. Arun Upreti Speaker Sikkim Legislative State Assembly. He was joined by Minister Education, Sports and Youth Affairs Department Shri. Kunga Nima Lepcha, Minister Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Shri. L. N Sharma, Minister Power Department Shri. M. N Sherpa, Area MLA Smt. Sunita Gazmer, Political Secretary to the HCM Shri. Jacob Khaling, SDM Jorethang Smt Saloni Pradhan, Officials from the line departments, committee members and Public at large.
The Chief Guest, Shri Arun Upreti, delivered a powerful speech at the event, highlighting the government’s commitment to the development of Sikkim in all fields. He spoke about the remarkable achievements made by the government in a short period of time since its formation. He also urged the public to support and vote for Miss Jetshen lama, a talented young girl from Sikkim who is currently in the final of a prestigious singing competition Saregamapa L’il Champs India.
The Chief Guest expressed his confidence in the ability of the people of Sikkim to work together to achieve great things and urged everyone to be a part of the state’s progress. He also praised the efforts of the government, and emphasized that with the support of the people, Sikkim will continue to achieve greater heights of development.
Accordingly, the cultural event featured a series of meticulously choreographed dance performances, showcasing the diverse traditions and customs of the participating groups. The audience was entranced by the energy and passion of each performance, representing a rich tapestry of cultural heritage.
The highly anticipated inter-constituency football final between Poklok- Kamrang and Soreng- Chakung was a thrilling and intense affair. Both teams fought fiercely for every inch of the field, displaying exceptional skill and determination. The match was a true showcase of the best football talent in the region. The spectators were on the edge of their seats as the teams battled for supremacy, with the tension rising with every passing moment. In the end, it was Poklok-Kamrang who emerged victorious with the score of 2-0, securing their place as the top team in the region. The final was a fitting end to a spectacular tournament and left the fans eagerly anticipating the next edition of this exciting event.
Following the schedule of program prizes were distributed to the performers of the day’s program in recognition of their talents and efforts. The audience watched with appreciation as the deserving recipients were honoured for their contributions to the program.
The program was brought to a graceful close with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Shri. DN Sharma. He acknowledged the presence of the Chief Guest, distinguished guests, and the hard work of the performers, in making the program a grand success.
