Identification and Assessment Camp for Children with Special Needs Held in Namchi District.

Namchi, March 17 (IPR): Persons with Disabilities (PwD) community of Sikkim, in collaboration with Samagra Shiksha Education Department, Health and Welfare Department, and Women, Child, Senior Citizen, and Divyangjan Welfare Department organised an identification and assessment camp for children with special needs, in Namchi, today.
The camp was funded by Inclusive Education Samagra Shiksha Education Department, Government of Sikkim, catering PwDs from three districts Soreng, Gyalsing, and Namchi, focusing on identifying all types of disabilities, with a particular focus on identifying Slow Learning Disability (SLD).
After identification, disability certificates were issued for diagnosed cases by the doctors. Following certification, eligible individuals could apply for the Unique Disability Identity (UDID) card, a nationally recognised document available through an online registration process. A team of medical specialists, including psychiatrists, ENT specialists, ophthalmologists, orthopaedic surgeons, general physicians, and clinical physiologists, conducted thorough screenings before issuing the certificates.
Volunteers from various departments and college students assisted with registration and camp activities.
A total of 82 children participated in the camp. Following this, 71 disability certificates were issued, and the process for 35 Unique Disability Identity (UDID) cards was initiated, with the necessary documents gathered for further registration.
Present during the occasion were Dr SN Adhikari CMO Namchi, Ms Sonam Diki Bhutia President PDCS along with other executive members, Special Educators, Parents/guardians and volunteers.
It is to be mentioned here, that the same camp is scheduled to be held on STNM hospital, Gangtok on 26th March for Mangan, Pakyong and Gangtok District.
