Information and Public Relations Department Namchi in collaboration with District Administrative Centre Namchi commences 50 years of Statehood Celebration with a series of educational activities

Namchi, November 13(IPR): To commemorate the 50 years of Statehood, Information and Public Relations Department Namchi in collaboration with District Administrative Centre Namchi organised an Inter-School essay and debate competitions at DAC conference hall, today.
The event was graced by Ms Anupa Tamling DC Namchi as the chief guest, accompanied by Mr Simeyon Sukita Rai winner of Nepal Poet Idol 2 as the guest of honour. The programme was also attended by Dr TN Gyatsho Sr SP, Mr Subash Ghimirey ADC(HQ), Ms Tirsang Tamang ADC Namchi, Mr Nim Pintsho Bhutia SDM(HQ), Mr Saran Kalikotey SDM Namchi, Mr Pravin Gautam SDM Namthang, Mr Gopal Sharma JD Education Department, Ms Deepti Pradhan DIO Namchi as the special guests.
Addressing the gathering, the DC expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the teachers for their dedicated efforts in guiding students to participate in the inter-school essay and debate competitions. She also lauded the students for their zeal and enthusiasm, acknowledging their active involvement.
She further spoke about the momentous occasion of Sikkim’s 50th years of statehood, which will be celebrated on May 16, 2025. She reflected on the state’s remarkable journey from a kingdom to a full-fledged state and emphasised its rich heritage, vibrant cultures, diverse traditions, and the unique flora and fauna. She highlighted the significant progress Sikkim has made over the years showcasing its growth and development.
She also underscored the collective responsibility of every individual to preserve and protect the cultural heritage, customs, and traditions of the state. She concluded her remarks by encouraging everyone to actively participate and contribute, ensuring that the celebration remains a memorable and meaningful for all.
During the program, the Sr SP congratulated the students for their insightful deliberations and active participation in the competitions. He emphasised that while preserving the rich culture and traditions of the state, it is equally important for every individual to focus on sustainable development and compete with other developed states in achieving both cultural preservation and economic growth.
Mr Simeyon Sukita Rai embarked on the state’s journey to statehood, emphasising the significance of this milestone in Sikkim’s history. He further encouraged the students to familiarise themselves with the historical background of the state and underscored the importance of understanding its roots. In addition, he highlighted the crucial role of language in preserving the state’s identity and urged students to value and promote their linguistic heritage.
During the event, the debate competition was held for the students of class 11 and 12 on the topic ‘Is Development more important than Environmental protection? Wherein, the team who emphasised “Against the motion” won the competition and Ms Angkita Dahal from Bal Krishna Kasuja Senior Secondary School, Namthang was adjudged as the Best Speaker from “Against the motion”.
The essay competition was conducted on the topic ‘What makes me proud of my State’, wherein the winners were as follows
1. Ms Dhrisya Mangar
2. Ms Bidhya Tamang and
3. Ms Kritika Rai
The programme also included the interaction sessions among the students and teachers of various school, wherein the DC and Sr SP addressed the concerns of the students.
