Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas celebration at Namchi
Namchi, November 15 (IPR): Namchi District Headquarters observed Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas or Tribal Pride Day with great zeal, honouring tribal achievers and displaying distinct cultural vibrance at the conference hall of District Administrative Centre Namchi, today.
The event was organised by Social Welfare Department incollaboration with District Administration Namchi, and had the presence of Mr Satish Chandra Rai MLA Namchi-Singhithang Constituency as the chief guest and Padma Shree Awardee Mr Khandu Wangchuk Bhutia as the guest of honour. Present during the occasion were Ms Anupa Tamling DC Namchi, Dr TN Gyatsho Sr SP Namchi, ADCs, SDMs, CMO, Mr Sonam Dadul Bhutia Welfare Officer along with other officials and staff of line departments, councilors of Namchi Municipal Council, panchayats members and tribal achievers of different communities.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Mr Satish Chandra Rai expressed his heartfelt congratulations on the occasion of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, which commemorates the birth anniversary of Tribal Freedom Fighter Bhagwan Birsa Munda and his legacy, citing the supreme sacrifice made during the pre-independence era. Drawing the inspiration of such freedom fighters, he encouraged unity among communities, and urged the department officials and the general public to work collectively, prioritizing developing a positive work culture for the greater good of the nation. He further also mentioned the state government’s commitment led by the Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang, to uplifliting the lives of tribal communities and working for the inclusion of the 12 left-out indigenous ethnic communities in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category.
During the occasion, the District Administration felicitated numerous tribal individuals who have made significant strides in the field of traditional arts, literature and folk song. The tribal achievers felicitated by the administration were Ms Bidhya Wati Tamang, Mr Suresh Kumar Subba, Mr Dawa Rinzing Sherpa, Mr Karma Loday Bhutia and Mr Bhaichung Lepcha.
Similarly, the chief guest also felicitated Mr Samten Tamang and Ms Choden Sherpa, both students from EMRS, Suntaley for participating in national level in table tennis.
Moreover, the chief guest also distributed UV Green House Films to the tribal progressive farmers for ease in farming practices. Health Cards under PMJAY was also handed over to the beneficiaries in the event. Cultural dance of different tribal communities was also exhibited by the students.
Later, the chief guest also visited the Self Help Groups stalls showcasing traditional cuisine, arts and many more that was set up at DAC.
Thereafter, the DC Namchi also interacted with the students of EMRS to enquire their studies and problems, which she assured to look after.
