Joint inspection for inspecting the Hygiene Standards of Retail Meat shops at Akkar Bridge, Jorethang

Namchi, November 22: A joint inspection led by SDM (Hq) cum Designated Officer Food Safety, Gopal K. Chettri, inspected the Hygiene Standards of Retail Meat shops at Akkar Bridge, Jorethang today. This inspection was held as directed by the District Collector, Namchi during the District Level Advisory Committee Meeting on Food Safety held on 7th November 2023.
The inspection team included SDM Jorethang, SHO Jorethang, Councillors from Ward No. 2 and Nayabazar Ward, MEO Jorethang, Deputy Director AH& VS Karfectar, Food Safety Officer, Namchi and representatives from UDD Department.
During the inspection the team discussed the possibilities to relocate the existing Meat shops at Akkar Bridge to a safer place as the existing premises lacks proper space and facilities to maintain basic hygiene standards as per the Food Safety norms laid down under Food Safety Act, 2006.
Later on the team also visited Nayabazar Goshkhan Market and assessed the vacant space for possible relocation of Meat shops of Akkar Bridge in future and would be decided after meeting with the councillors, concerned Departments and major stakeholders.
