Jorethang Maghey Sankranti Mela 2023

Namchi, 15th Jan (IPR): The three-day-long Jorethang Maghey Sankranti Mela, 2023 themed ‘Vocal for Local’ and ‘Hamro Sanskriti Hamro Parampara’ organized by Jorethang Maghey Mela Celebration Committee was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Sikkim Shri Prem Singh Tamang, today.
Also present during the program were the spouse of the Chief Minister Smt. Krishna Rai, Cabinet Ministers, the Deputy Speaker(SLA), MLAs, Political Secretary to HCM, Press Secretary to HCM, Advisors, Chairpersons, Government Officials, Mela Committee members, and the public at large.
At the outset, the Chief Minister declared the opening of the mela at Jorethang playground. Thereafter, he flagged off six Mobile Veterinary Clinic Van proposed for each district. This Mobile Veterinary Clinic Van will cater to seamless access to meet the emergency and critical care demands of the livestock in remote and rural places of the state. The van includes a Veterinary Officer and a veterinary attendant.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister extended his greetings on the auspicious occasion of Maghey Sankranti, 2023. He said that the Jorethang Maghey Sankranti Mela celebration holds great significance to the people of Sikkim, hence the state government extended every possible effort to celebrate this year grandly after 2 years of break.
Speaking on the occasion, the CM made a slew of announcements concerning the decline in the fertility rate of the state.
These are as follows:
1. A childcare unit will be set up in each government office where the employees can leave their children during working hours.
2. A woman government employee who conceives more than one time will receive a one-time increment while if she conceives more than two times will be given two additional increments. Whereas non-working women will be awarded financial assistance.
In addition, under the Vatsalya Scheme, up to 3 lakhs rupees have been provided for the IVF treatment in which a total of 38 females have been aided. The state government has also granted a maternity leave of 365 days to temporary employees including Adhoc, Muster Rolls, and Work-Charged employees, he added.
The CM also said that the setting up of Capital University and Sikkim Ekana Cancer Institute under the Zoom-Salghari Constituency will be beneficial as there is a growing medical and other academic needs for the people of Sikkim. He further informed that the government will leave no stone unturned to assist the public therefore he exhorted them to take grasp of the opportunities provided by the government.
Further, he also briefly highlighted various policies adopted by the state government and other major achievements in health, education, agriculture, tourism and many other sectors of the state.
Speaking, during the occasion Area MLA Smt. Sunita Gazmer highlighted the significance of Maghey Mela and expressed her appreciation to the Chief Minister for his support of the celebration of the mela and towards the development of the constituency. She threw light on the development made by this government so far in every area.
During the program, the CM handed over
cheques to eight beneficiaries through the CM’s Discretionary Fund.
They beneficiaries are as follows:

5.Rhenock Bazar Local Driver Association,
6. Dhiraj Pradhan
7.Bhupendra Adhikari
8.Deepak Gurung
During the program,the Chief Minister was felicitated by the organizing committee for his unwavering support to the people of the constituency.
The day’s program also witnessed a final match of Maghey Mela Men’s Hills Open Volleyball Tournament 2023 between Kalimpong and Daramdin, wherein Daramdin emerged as the winner.
Mr. Binam Pradhan was declared as ‘Man of the tournament’ whereas Mr. Binod Sharma was awarded the ‘Man of the Match’.
