Kitam VDVK successfully conducted 10-day long Training on Turmeric Processing and Packaging

Namchi, June 1st: Kitam Van Dhan Vikas Kendra, Namchi District, successfully conducted ten-day long training program on processing and packaging of turmeric held from 20th – 31st May 2024 under the supervision of Cooperation Department, Government of Sikkim. The training initiative falls under the aegis of the Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Yojana, with the objective of promoting the sustainable utilization of forest resources while providing avenues for livelihood enhancement, particularly for tribal communities.
Today’s valedictory program had the significant participation of the Honorable Panchayat Vice President of Kitam Manpur GPU, Honourable panchayat members of the Kitam and Sorok Syampani GPU, the former Chairman of the Farmers Welfare Board, representatives from the Horticulture Department, State Rural Livelihood Mission (SRLM), as well as the Additional Registrar, Deputy Registrar and Inspectors from Namchi Cooperation department . Additionally, the President of Kitam Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society Ltd., along with the Team Leader and Deputy Team Leader of Kitam VDVK lent their presence to the occasion.
Throughout the course of the program, participants were equipped with practical skills and knowledge pertaining to the processing and packaging of turmeric, thereby enhancing their capacity for value addition in the agricultural domain. Master trainer Mrs. Laxmi Tamang’s mentorship provided invaluable insights, ensuring that the training was comprehensive and effective in meeting its objectives. On the concluding day of the training, the VDVK also launched its Turmeric product which will soon be available in the local market.
The participants of the training were also awarded with a certificate of participation.
The successful conclusion of this training program signifies a significant step forward in empowering local communities, fostering sustainable practices, and harnessing the potential of natural resources for socio-economic development
