Launching of National Deworming Day (NDD), Namchi District

11th March 2024, Namchi (S): The first round of National Deworming Day was launched at Namchi Public School by Namchi District Hospital today.
The programme was graced by the School Principal Father Stanley in the presence of Chief Medical Officer Namchi, Dr. S. N. Adhikari, CDPO, ICDS supervisor, DRCHO, CNO, DPHNO, IEC team, ANM, ASHAs of District Hospital Namchi, teachers and staffs of Namchi Public School along with the students.
DRCHO Namchi highlighted on the objective of deworming programme which is carried out all over Sikkim covering all Private Schools, Government Schools and Aganwadi Centres, during which all children aged 1 – 19 years will be given chewable deworming tablet free of cost and all left out children during NDD, and the Mop up Day is on 18th March 2024. He also briefed on Soil-Transmitted Helminths (STH), which is a crucial public health concern for the country. As many as 22 crore children in the age bar between 1 to 19 years are estimated to be at risk of worm infections. These infections interfere with nutrient intake in children and also contribute to anaemia, malnourishment, and impaired mental and physical growth. Therefore it is important to deworm 1-19 years children to combat above intestinal parasitic infections leading to such unhealthy consequences.
Lastly, the Chief Guest Father Stanley, Principal of Namchi Public School encouraged all the students to take deworming tablets sincerely and appreciated the effort of the health team.
