Makar-Sankranti 2025 Update: Registration Opens for Rural Sports Events from January 10.

Namchi, January 3 (IPR): The Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Government of Sikkim, in collaboration with the Maghe-Mela Sports Committee, has announced the commencement of registrations for three key sporting events as part of the Rural Sports-II initiative for the Makar Sankranti celebration 2025.
The events will take place on January 20, 2025, at Jorethang Football Stadium, with registrations open from January 10 to January 19, 2025.
Event Details:
1. Half Marathon
– Category: Men and Women (17 years and above)
– Route: Jorethang to Birdang and back
– Start Time: 7:00 AM
– Prizes:
– 1st Prize: ₹50,000
– 2nd Prize: ₹30,000
– 3rd Prize: ₹20,000
– Consolation: ₹10,000 for top 10 positions
2. Chief Minister’s One Mile Run
– Category: Boys and Girls (12–15 years)
– Start Point: Akar Bridge Mandir
– Finish Point: Jorethang Football Stadium
– Start Time: 7:00 AM
– Prizes:
– 1st Prize: ₹10,000
– 2nd Prize: ₹7,000
– 3rd Prize: ₹5,000
3. Walkathon (3 km)
– Category: Men and Women (60 years and above)
– Start and Finish Point: Jorethang Football Stadium
– Start Time: 10:00 AM
– Prizes:
– 1st Prize: ₹5,000
– 2nd Prize: ₹3,000
– 3rd Prize: ₹2,000
Registration Process:
Participants must fill out the registration form, which requires:

– Proof of birth certificate

– Signature of the applicant and parent/guardian
