MLA Zoom-Salghari chairs coordination meeting for the celebration of upcoming Maghey Sankranti Mela, 2025

Namchi, Nov 14 (IPR): Mr Madan Cintury, MLA Zoom-Salghari Constituency, chaired a coordination meeting with Heads of Offices of various line departments at Community Hall Jorethang, today.
The MLA was accompanied by Ms Anupa Tamling DC Namchi, Dr T N Gyatso Sr SP Namchi, Mr Subash Ghimirey ADC (HQ) Namchi, SDMs, Panchayats, HoOs and officers from various line departments.
While addressing the gathering, the MLA highlighted on the vision of the Chief Minister of Sikkim, Mr Prem Singh Tamang, to uplift the Maghey Mela celebration and its heritage to National prominence. He also proposed the participation of the local gentry to make the upcoming mela a grand success.
Highlighting the importance of various traditional aspects to be implemented during the celebration, the MLA emphasised the priority of traditional touches in the distribution of mementos to the participants and performances like ‘Dhan Nach’ and ‘Maruni Nach’.
He proposed in the creation of a designated area, apart of the traditional stalls, which will focus on the sale of local cuisines and drinks, which can be consumed and enjoyed by the public during the course of the event. He also emphasised on supporting and uplifting local talents and designating events for them to perform amd showcase their talents to the mass.
Further, he urged the local traders of the town to come forward and offer their support to the committee by decorating their trade platforms and also provide with discounts so that it may leave a positive impression about the event and the town to the visitors.
During the meeting, DC Namchi reflected on the purpose and significance of celebrating Maghey Mela. She stated that the committee and sub-committee should focus on organizing a beautiful celebration this year. She encouraged the local business community to offer a 5% or 10% discount to local residents for mutual benefit.
She stressed on promoting the heritage of Maghey Sankranti Mela, as it holds a vast and rare historical significance. She emphasised on celebrating the event in a grand manner.
She also urged all the local hotel owners to promote tradional cuisines alongside their day-to-day business amenities being provided. She also gave importance on a proper sanitation facility to be set-up during the course of the event to promote hygenic atmosphere.
Further, she urged everyone to work together as a team to uphold and preserve the traditional Maghey Mela in an exemplary manner.
The Sr SP, in his address congratulated the former Mela Organising Committee for a successful and safe conduct of the previous Mela event.
He focused on the safety aspects that has to be and will be implemented during the event. He also focused on restoration of the roads for a smooth traffic flow to avoid over-crowding and traffic jams.
He also suggested on issuing Inner Line Permits for the artists who will be invited and brought during the Mela for their performances from the neighbouring countries, to avoid any inconveniences that can delay their travel and visit to the state.
He also emphasised on issuing Saftey Standard Certificates from the concerned departments to avoid occurrences of any disaster during the event.
Mr Keshav Subba, Additional Commissioner and the Former Treasurer of Mela Organising Committe, provided with an overview of the financial aspects that the committee handled during the previous mela celebration. He gave a brief report on the expenses that were met and used for the celebration.
Mr D S Cintury, AE Sports & Youth Affairs Department, provided on the recent status of the playground of the town and also informed that various amenities of it are being constructed and developed at war-footing pace and will be completed in time before the Mela celebration.
