MLA Zoom-Salghari Mr. Madan Cintury Flags Off Bike Rally for Maghey Sankranti Mela 2025
Namchi, January 3 (IPR): In a significant step to promote the cultural heritage of Sikkim, the Maghey Sankranti Mela Committee, under the leadership of Mr. Madan Cintury MLA Zoom-Salghari and Chief Patron, flagged off a bike rally at the Jorethang Football Stadium today.
The bike rally aims to elevate the Maghey Sankranti Mela into a major cultural event, highlighting its rich traditions and significance through various programs incorporated into the mela. The rally seeks to bring greater recognition to the historical and cultural importance of the festival, which has long been a celebration of unity and community spirit in Sikkim.
Accompanying the MLA at the event were Mr. Yougan Tamang, Press Secretary to the Chief Minister, Ms. Monika Rai SDM Jorethang, Mr. Pavitra Manav President of NJNP, Mr. Dilip Dong MEO, and Mr. Ben Kumar Chettri CFO, along with officials from various departments, members of the Maghey Mela Sub-Committees, and local residents.
The rally drew participation from approximately 65 bikers hailing from Sikkim and neighboring states, reflecting the regional enthusiasm for the event. The bikers embarked on a journey from Jorethang, passing through culturally significant areas such as Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Melli, and other key venues before concluding at the starting point.
Historically Maghey Sankranti Mela is associated with fairs, communal harmony, and religious observances, the festival has evolved into a grand occasion, blending spirituality with cultural festivities.
This initiative, spearheaded by the Mela Committee, underscores the commitment to preserve and promote Sikkim’s cultural heritage while fostering tourism and regional unity.
