Mr. Anil Raj Rai, IAS, Secretary of the Food and Civil Supplies Department visits various food godowns in Namchi district

Namchi, 19 August: Mr. Anil Raj Rai, IAS, Secretary of the Food and Civil Supplies Department, recently visited various food godowns in Namchi District.
He was accompanied by Mr. Tenzing Bhutia, District Civil Supplies Officer for Namchi District, and other officials from the Engineering Cell Head Office, including Mr. Tshering Wangyal Bhutia, Assistant Engineer, Mr. Palzor Bhutia, Junior Engineer, Head Office, Mr. Praveen Gurung, Junior Engineer, UDD Gyalshing, Mr. Bijay Rai, In-charge of Namchi Food Godown, and Ms. Albina Gurung, ASI at the DCSO Office, Namchi District.
Upon his arrival, the Secretary was warmly welcomed by Mr. Tenzing Bhutia. At the Temi Godown, Mr. Anil Raj Rai inspected the ongoing construction of a new food godown. He engaged with Mr. Sandeep Mukhia, In-charge of Temi Food Godown, and the contractor, Mr. Dilli Ram Chettri, who provided updates on construction progress, pending tasks, and issues related to the approach road.
The Secretary also visited several Fair Price Shops under the Temi Godown, noting that their automated transactions were below 50%. He spoke with the FPS owners and emphasised the importance of biometric authentication on e-POS devices for the distribution of subsidised foodgrains.
Following this, Mr. Anil Raj Rai visited the District Civil Supplies Office and Namchi Food Godown, where he was received by the officials and staff. Mr. Bijay Rai, the Godown In-charge, briefed him on the godown’s current condition and the need for significant repairs. The Secretary instructed the present engineers to address these issues and highlighted the need for training newly employed staff for optimal service delivery.
The visit concluded with a tour of the Namthang Food Godown, where Mr. Anil Raj Rai, accompanied by Mr. Tenzing Bhutia and Mr. Hem Gurung, In-charge of Namthang Godown, praised the meticulous record-keeping and maintenance of stock at the godown.
He also commended the well-maintained garden and cleanliness of the premises. Mr. Anil Raj Rai directed the DCSO to encourage other godowns to emulate the high standards observed at Namthang. Additionally, he inquired about the progress of issuing ration cards to migrant workers in compliance with the Hon’ble Supreme Court’s order, ensuring proper document verification.
The DCSO and the staff of the Food and Civil Supplies Department, Namchi District, extend their sincere gratitude to the Secretary for his time and presence. They are hopeful that his visit will inspire the officers and staff to continue their efforts in serving the public
