Ms Raj Kumari Thapa Deputy Speaker SLA graces the final day of Rankey Mela Celebration, 2024

Namchi, July 16(IPR): The two-day long Rakhey Mela Celebration 2024, organised by Rankey Mela Celebration Committee in collaboration with District Administrative Centre concluded successfully at the Convention hall of Kishan Market, today.
The programme was graced by Ms Raj Kumari Thapa Deputy Speaker cum MLA Rangang-Yangang. She was accompanied Mr Ganesh Rai Chairman NMC, Ms Sabitri Tamang Vice Chairman NMC, Ms Anjeeta Rajalim Adhakshya, Ms Anupa Tamling DC Namchi, Mr Subash Ghimirey ADC Namchi, along with HoOs from various line departments and public at large.
Addressing the gathering, Ms Raj Kumari Thapa expressed her gratitude on the occasion and congratulated the entire public of Namchi for the glorious 71 years of Rankey Mela Celebration in the district. She emphasised on the importance and significance of this festival and the need to preserve the rich heritage and culture of the state.
In addition, she urged the committee to conserve rural activities as it has numerous feelings attached to it. She further spoke on the importance of the documentation of this celebration in order to attract more tourists from various corners of the country. She reiterated that under the leadership of the chief Minister the district is being able to excel in many factors.
Mr Buddha Tamang Former Chairman NMC highlighted the significance of the Rankey Mela Celebration in the district. The Star Runner for State Level Open Men Marathon Mr Premius Bhutia also gave his word of encouragement to the youths of the district.
During the programme, the chief guest was felicitated by organising committee, which was followed by the felicitation of Students for representing Sikkim in various national competitions namely, Ms Anika Subba, Master Justin Mani Rai, Ms Kripa Chhetri and Master Santosh Darjee.
Reflecting back to the historical tradition of Rankey Mela, rural games and sports were organised, wherein many participated with great zeal.
In view of fostering good health, the Rakhey mela committee in collaboration with District Administrative Centre had also organised the State Level Open Men Marathon and Men Senior Citizen Walkathon which was flagged off by District Collector this morning.
The results for State Level Open Men Marathon are as follows :
1. First position- Mr Damber Kumar Basnett
2. Second position- Mr Ganga Hang Subba
3. Third position- Mr Bir Bahadur Rai
The result for Men Senior Citizen Walkathon are as follows:
1. First position – Mr D B Rai
2. Second position- Mr Nagey Bhutia
3. Third position- Mr J B Tamang.
It maybe mentioned here that during the programme, a two minute silence was observed in honour and tribute to the Former Minister Late R C Poudyal on his sudden demise.
