Namchi District Celebrates 76th Republic Day

Namchi, January 26 (IPR): The 76th Republic Day was observed at the District Administrative Centre, Namchi, today.
Mr. Satish Chandra Rai, MLA 11-Namchi Singhithang, attended the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Also present during the occasion were Ms Anupa Tamling DC Namchi, Mr Subash Ghimirey ADC Namchi(HQ), Ms Tirsang Tamang ADC Namchi, Mr Nim Pintsho Bhutia SDM Namchi(HQ), Mr Saran Kalikotey SDM Namchi, HoDs, Chairperson’s, staff of DAC Namchi, Retired Ex-Servicemen, SHGs and Aaganwadi Workers.
The programme commenced with the arrival of the Chief Guest. The national flag was unfurled, accompanied by the Guard of Honour and the National Anthem.
Ms Anupa Tamling DC Namchi, delivered the message of the Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Mr Om Prakash Mathur, while Ms Tirsang Tamang ADC Namchi, delivered the message of the Chief Minister, Mr Prem Singh Tamang.
Mr Satish Chandra Rai, in his address, expressed his gratitude for being invited to the 76th Republic Day celebration at DAC Namchi. He discussed various aspects of Namchi’s developmental plans, emphasising improvements that would enhance the town’s overall appearance through careful planning.
He also proposed reducing the use of khadas in daily events, citing their environmental impact, and recommended replacing them with single flower sticks as a more affordable and eco-friendly alternative.
He encouraged the use of flowers in Namchi, with support from the horticulture department, Government of Sikkim, to further beautify the area.
Additionally, he announced plans to visit institutions and offices to assess cleanliness and the aesthetic quality of their premises.
He also praised the efforts of Dream Dresser SHG Sorok for repurposing waste into useful products and empowering women through their initiatives.
The event also featured cultural presentations, including an integration song by JNMIH and dance performance by NGSS and NYK Namchi.
During the programme, awards and certificates were also distributed. Meritorious certificates were presented to students under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme, police personnel received appreciation certificates for their contributions to BBBP, and government employees were felicitated with the District Meritorious Award.
Also, repurposed flex product was also launched by Dream Dresser SHG Sorok during the event.
