Namchi District Launches of the 7th Rashtriya Poshan Maah
Namchi, 4 August (IPR) : The Women & Child Development Department (WCDD) in collaboration with the District Administrative Centre (DAC) officially launched the 7th Rashtriya Poshan Maah today.
The inaugural event featured a Torch March starting from Namchi Central Park and concluding at the DAC Namchi.
The ceremony was honoured by Ms Raj Kumari Thapa Deputy Speaker of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, who served as the chief guest.
The event was also attended by Ms Anupa Tamling DC Namchi, Mr Subash Ghimirey,ADC (HQ) Namchi, Mr Nim Pintso Bhutia SDM (HQ) Namchi, Dr SN Adhikari CMO Namchi, Mr DB Rai JD Education Namchi, Ms T Ongmu Bhutia JD Sports, Laxman Tamang CDPO Namchi, Mr Norbu Lepcha CDPO Ravangla, Dr. Neelima Thatal Ayush Department, Ms Sophia Lepcha AD Nutrition, Mr Dhan Bahadur Rai JD Education Department, Ms Deepti Pradhan DIO Namchi along with the officials of the concerned department and Angawandi Workers.
The key themes for the event centred around Anaemia, Growth Monitoring, Complementary Feeding, “Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi,” the Use of Technology for Better Governance, and the motto “Sahi Poshan, Desh Roshan.”
Ms Raj Kumari Thapa in her address highlighted the importance of improving health and education for children and women.
She spoke about the symbolic significance of the Poshan Torch March, representing the eradication of darkness and negativity from the society.
Further, She praised the dedication of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers and discussed various women-centric schemes proposed by the Chief Minister, including the Vatsalya scheme. She also highlighted the benefits of millet consumption.
Ms Anupa Tamling, DC Namchi, congratulated ASHA workers and Anganwadi Helpers for their year-round dedication and encouraged continued unity and effort to elevate Poshan Maah. She underscored the collective effort needed for the initiative’s success.
Mr Subash Ghimirey, ADC (HQ) Namchi, reflected on past experiences with Poshan Maah and stressed the importance of continued adherence to health practices promoted during the event.
Dr SN Adhikari CMO Namchi, addressed about anaemia, discussing its causes and the necessity of incorporating iron-rich vegetables into diets. He cautioned against junk food and promoted the benefits of nutritious eating.
Mr Laxman Tamang, CDPO Namchi, elaborated on the critical first 1000 days of a child’s life, emphasising the importance of nutrition and complementary feeding.
He also noted the role of millet cookies in providing essential nutrients and discussed the potential disadvantages of overnutrition.
The event concluded with the distribution of awards for the placard competition on decoration and effective use of the theme.

3.Palum Singtam (3rd place).
The event also witnessed a Poshan Pledge administered by the Chief Guest followed by a signature campaign at the DAC Poshan Vatika.
