National Exposure Youth Programme 2025 commences in Namchi, Aiming to Foster Unity and Cultural Exchange between Meghalaya and Sikkim

Namchi, May 6 (IPR): The National Exposure Youth Programme commenced today with a vibrant opening ceremony at Officers’ Club Namchi, marking the beginning of a three-day long initiative to strengthen national integration through cultural exchange and youth engagement.
The programme is being organised by the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra Namchi and The Blood Volunteers of Sikkim.
The event was graced by Advisor/MLA Mr Rikshal Dorjee Bhutia as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest spoke about the importance of preserving culture and language. He stated that just as Meghalaya having three distinctive tribes, the state Sikkim also has three identified community, citing different rich cultures and traditions within. He further expressed his concern over the younger generations who are least bothered and declining of traditional values, customs, and native speaking languages. He encouraged them to learn their own identity and prioritise it for the austerity.
Later, the delegates also had an interactive session with the DC Namchi Ms Anupa Tamling at Tendong Bio-diversity park.
Wherein, Ms Anupa Tamling emphasized the importance of embracing local culture and traditional attire. She expressed admiration for Meghalaya’s efforts in preserving its cultural heritage and shared her thoughts with the delegates. Additionally, she highlighted various government schemes implemented in Sikkim, providing the delegates with valuable insights of the aims and objectives for the welfare of its citizen and wished them for great experience in the district.
Youth Coordinator of Meghalaya Mr Bobby Walang elucidated about the traditions of the communities and way of living in Meghalaya.
He highlighted the importance of such cultural exchange programme which helps to foster unity in diversity and congratulated the state on the celebration of 50 years of statehood.
The morning session began with an interactive discussion where Meghalaya delegates shared their perspectives on the cultural similarities and differences between their state and Sikkim.
The inauguration ceremony was conducted with great enthusiasm by the participants. Dignitaries were greeted with garlands and the customary lighting of diyas. Team Sikkim set off the event with an energetic welcome dance, while Team Meghalaya showcased their cultural heritage through Wangala Dance, Khasi Folk Song, Jaintia Folk Dance and Garo Folk Song.
It may be mentioned here that as part of programme, the delegates will visit various destinations in and around Namchi such as Buddha Park and Temi Tea Garden and many more. These exposure are intended to provide delegates with an immersive experience of Sikkim’s rich heritage and natural beauty, reinforcing the initiative’s goal of promoting appreciation for India’s vibrant cultural diversity.
Present amongst through out the programme were SDM (HQ) Mr Nim Pintso Bhutia, SHO Mr Asish Bhujel, NYK Namchi Programmer Mr BS Malik, Chief Coordinator Blood Volunteers Mr Kul Prashad Chettri and officials from different departments.
