One-day legal awareness program on Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, POCSO Act and other related provisions for women conducted at BAC Hall, Temi

Namchi, 25th January: One-day legal awareness program on Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, POCSO Act and other related provisions for women was conducted by Sikkim State Commission for Women in collaboration with the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India at BAC Hall, Temi, South Sikkim on 24th January 2023 and BAC Hall, Namthang on 25th January 2023.
A total of 181 SHG members from various SHG groups along with employees of The Directorate of handicrafts and Handloom (DHH) Temi were sensitized and trained on various legal provisions related to women such as Domestic Violence Act, Human Trafficking of women and children in the state, POCSO Act and elimination of gender-based violence.
The resource persons for the programs were Ms Aeromeena Lepcha, Para Legal Advocate, One Stop Centre, South Sikkim, Mr. Amrit Sharma, CPS, East Sikkim, Mr. Nirmal Mangar, Senior Journalist, Sikkim Chronicle, Ms. Sangita Gurung, Centre Administrator, One Stop Centre, South Sikkim.
Hon’ble Chairperson, Smt. Chungkipu Lepcha, Sikkim State Commission for Women, Smt. Parbati Acharya, Member, Sikkim State Commission for Women, Smt. Yousa Lachenpa, Member Secretary, Sikkim State Commission for Women, Smt. Binita Bista, Panchayat President,Temi GPU, Mr. Yogen Syangden, BDO Namthang, Ms. Kunzang Ongmu Bhutia, Project Coordinator Mr. Karma Sonam, Project Assistant, Sikkim State Commission for Women also attended the workshop/training programs.
The training programs were interactive and activity-based. Questions were raised by the participants and similarly, addressed by the resource persons.
