One day training on varieties and technologies of ICAR-IIHR suitable for Sikkim and Input distribution programme at KVK Namthang

Namchi, 18th March: A day long training programme on varieties and technologies of ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticulture Research (IIHR), Karnataka Bengaluru was conducted at Krishi Vigyan Kendra South Sikkim.
Dr. B. Balakrishna, Principal Scientist (Agril. Extn.), Division of Social Sciences and Training, ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru; Dr. Chetan Kumar G and Dr. N.R. Prasannkumar, Scientists, ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru were the dignitaries present. Farmers from adopted villages of Ruchung and Chuba, Bermiok-Tokal FPO, Passi FPO, Dong FPO participated in the programme.
The programme started with the welcoming of dignitaries of ICAR-IIHR by Senior Scientist and Head Shri Indra Prasad Shivakoti. He also highlighted on the various varieties of ICAR-IIHR which have been taken as On Farm Trials (OFTs) and Front-Line Demonstrations (FLDs) and their good performance in the farmer’s field.
Dr. B. Balakrishna through his Power Point Presentation gave a detailed information about the varieties of horticultural crops suitable for Sikkim State and also the technologies developed by IIHR.
Dr. N.R. Prasannakumar presented on the integrated pest management technologies. Dr. Chetankumar, G. spoke about the various micronutrient products developed by IIHR which are used for vegetables and fruits.
A farmers-scientist interaction programme was held to address the problems faced by the farming community.
A felicitation programme was also held to acknowledge the immense contribution of Dr. B. Balakrishna, Principal Scientist (Agril. Extn.) in implementing the NEH programme of ICAR-IIHR in Sikkim.
Technical session of the programme was concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Karma Peden Kaleon, Subject Matter Specialist, KVK South Sikkim.
Distribution of vegetable seeds released by ICAR-IIHR, plant protectants, micro-nutrients etc. was done by Ms. Yangchenla Bhutia, Subject Matter Specialist (Horticulture) with brief instruction for judicious utilization of the inputs given.
