Orientation and Training programme on Open Source Classes for Amateur Radio (OSCAR)

Namchi, September 13 (IPR): Presence Across Nation (PAN) initiative of All India School of Management and Information Technology ( AISMIT) conducted an orientation and training programme at DAC Namchi, today.
The meeting was chaired by Mr Subhash Ghimirey ADC (HQ), Mr Nim Pintso Bhutia SDM (HQ), Mr Saran Kalikotey SDM Namchi, Ms Monika Rai SDM Jorethang, Mr Pravin Gautam SDM Namthang, Mr Suraj Rai DPO Namchi, accompanied by subject experts and OSCAR officials Mr Tanumay Chakraborty (Ham radio operator, Kolkata) and Vishal CK Gupta (Ham radio operator, Delhi), along with the officials from Land Revenue & Disaster Management Department.
During the programme Mr. Vishal CK Gupta gave the introduction highlighting the significance of Ham radio as a crucial means for the communication void during disasters when mobile networks are non-operational.
Additionally, he briefed about the concept of ‘Amateur Radio,’ which involves using radio equipment to communicate with other individuals and satellites in space, especially during emergency situations. He also informed about the importance of having a HAM license to operate the equipment and outlined the necessary steps for clearing the license exam. Mr. Tanumay Chakraborty highlighted on the benefits of second line of communication (Ham Radio) for emergency communication and its ability to function when conventional networks fail by. He operated and demonstrated several devices, including an HF antenna and battery-operated walkie-talkies, while offering a hands-on display of their practical use.
An interactive session was held at the end of the program, giving participants the opportunity to ask questions and participate in discussions.
