Perbing Heritage Walk Inaugurated as Part of Sikkim’s 50 Years of Statehood Celebration

Namchi, May 15 (IPR): Tourism and Civil Aviation Department Government of Sikkim marked the 50th year of the state’s formation with the inauguration of the Perbing Heritage Walk, an initiative showcasing the cultural and natural treasures of Perbing.
The event was graced by Area MLA Mr Satish Chandra Rai as a chief guest who flagged off the heritage walk, aiming to boost tourism potential in Namchi.
Mr Satish Chandra Rai took an opportunity to participate in the walk, visiting key landmarks such as the Perbing Samteling Monastery, SHEDA, Perbing Guru Chopema Lake, traditional Clay Artist’s workshop and the Oldest Sherpa House (built in 1930).
Expressing his admiration, he commended the preservation efforts of the Sherpa community in the region and praised the scenic beauty of the trail.
Highlighting Namchi’s tourism potential, he shared his vision of transforming the town into a must-visit destination where tourists would stay longer to explore its rich heritage, landscapes, and cultural offerings.
As part of the event, he launched the official brochure and ticket for the Perbing Heritage Walk, formalising the initiative for the visitors.
He also extended his heartfelt wishes for Sikkim’s 50 years of statehood to all attendees.
Ms Lamin Theengh, Deputy Director, in her address, emphasised the underrated charm of Perbing, which boasts monasteries, serene lakes, organic farming sites, and heritage landmarks. She stressed the need for sustained promotion to bring this hidden gem into the spotlight.
Adding to the occasion, MLA Namthang Mr Sanjeet Kharel conveyed his gratitude via a telephone call, appreciating the department’s efforts in organising the event in his area.
The event also saw the participation of Zilla Adhyaksha Ms Anjita Rajalim, Assistant Director, Tourism & Civil Aviation Department Ms Dipti Rai, Panchayat members, staff of Tourism & Civil Aviation Department Namchi and Students from different colleges and schools.
