Namchi, March 14: The Pilot project on School Health Programme about soil health for sustainable agriculture practices on Mother Earth was organised by Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Agriculture Department at Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) in Suntaley, today.
The programme had the presence of Dr Amar Kanti Jana, Principal EMRS, teachers, students, Dr Nation Rai, Deputy Director, Agriculture Department, Mr Basant Tamang (PhD, Soil Science) and other staff from ATMA and Agriculture Department.
The objectives of the programme was to enlighten the young minds about the significance of soil health and to promote sustainable farming practices, emphasising the students on in depth knowledge about the soil.
Resource person Mr Basant Tamang (PhD, Soil Science) presented powerpoint presentation, wherein he briefed the students on valuable insights into the methods of soil testing, sample and importance of soil health. He also emphasised on the need for students to understand the dynamic relationship between soil health and plant growth. He also stressed on the importance of adopting eco-friendly farming practices.
During the programme, Dr Nation Rai, Deputy Director, Agriculture Department gave awareness of pilot project on School Soil Health Programme undertaken by Da & FW in collaboration with DSE & L. In addition, he briefed about the tentative list of activities and timeliness as a part of soil health programme and stressed on Organic farming and Integrated Nutrient Management.
Later students were also taken to the field for demonstration of soil collection and sampling methods.
