Training Session Enhances Farmers’ Knowledge on Organic Soybean Seed Production for the farmers of Sumbuk
Namchi, March 20: A Comprehensive training on Seed Production Technology of Soybean
was organised by the Agriculture Department, Namchi, in collaboration with ICAR-NIPB,
New Delhi, at Sumbuk Block.
The session aimed at equipping local farmers with advanced knowledge and techniques in organic soybean seed production.
Dr. Nation Chamling, Deputy Director cum Dy. PD ATMA Agriculture Department, Namchi
attended the event as the resource person. During his session, he provided detailed
insights into the overall package of practices for organically soybean cultivation.
Mr. Wangyal Lepcha, Deputy Director Agriculture Department addressed the Diffrence between seed and grain which the farmers should be aware and as an organic state we should focus on the production of locally adapted quality organic certified seeds.
Futher he gave detailed awareness on different flagship schemes of the department like PM KISAN, PMFBY, PDMC, SOIL HELATH AND FERTILITY, KCC, AGRICULTURE CENSUS, GENERAL CROP ESTIMATION SURVEY, RKVY, NFSM.
Mrs. Meena sharma ADO Sumbuk addressed detailed about Importance of soil Health and soil Health Card.
Mr. Ritesh Rai, Seed Inspector, discussed the detailed aspects of the SATHI portal, seed
testing, and processing, providing participants with a deeper understanding of seed
certification and quality control processes.
Ms Pratima Rai AI cum plant pathologist provided a detailed overview of seed diseases
observed in soybean crops. She also emphasized the importance of Integrated Pest
Management (IPM) and discussed effective strategies for managing these diseases.
The training session saw the active participation of 50 farmers along with field
functionaries from the Sumbuk Block.
At the end of the programmes the farmers were given valuable organic inputs by
Agriculture Department.
This programme successfully enhanced the knowledge and skills of local farmers,
contributing to better practices in organic soybean seed production, pest and disease
management.
