Training Programme on Seed Production Technology of Finger Millet Held at Lingmoo Paiyong GPK
Namchi, 17th March 2025: A training programme on Seed Production Technology of Finger Millet at Seed Village,Yangang was organized by Agriculture Department funded by ICAR-NIPB, New Delhi.
The Programme aimed at enhancing the knowledge and skills of local farmers in seed production practices of the crop.
The event saw the presence of Honourable Zilla Panchayat, Mrs. Som Lachi Rai, Honourable Ward Panchayats, Deputy Director, Agriculture, Yangang Subdivision, Ms. Vaishnu Rai; Deputy Director, IPM, Gangtok , Dr. Roshna Gazmer, Agriculture Dev. Officer (ADO) Ms. Florenz Bhutia, VLW Mr. P.B Chettri, field staffs and farmers.
Ms. Vaishnu Rai provided a detailed insight into the importance of seed production, explaining the entire process of Seed Production Technology of Finger Millet. She emphasized the role of quality seed production in ensuring high yield and sustainable agriculture.
Dr. Roshna Gazmer focused on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and Integrated Disease Management (IDM) techniques specific to millets. She highlighted the importance of soil health, seed treatment, pest identification and management, encouraging farmers to adopt eco-friendly pest control methods.
Ms. Florenz Bhutia elaborated on the importance of seed certification, discussing the framework of organic certification in India. She guided farmers through the necessary procedures for obtaining certification, ensuring their produce meets national organic standards.
Mrs. Som Lachi Rai applauded the farmers for their remarkable efforts in millet production. She urged them to adopt the technical recommendations to further enhance their agricultural productivity.
The session concluded with an interactive discussion, wherein farmers raised queries and received technical advice from the resource persons along with the distribution of agricultural inputs, reinforcing the commitment to equipping farmers with the necessary resources for improved millet cultivation.
