Namchi,12 March : The District Education Office of Namchi organised the ULLAS Mela (Understanding of Lifelong Learning for All in Society) under the Nav Bharat Saksharta Karyakram.
The event took place at the Primary Hall of Namchi Senior Secondary School and was graced by the presence of Mr. G.P. Sharma, Joint Director (Adm) of the District Education Office, as the Chief Guest.
The event saw the participation of Deputy Director Education Office, District Nodal Officers, ADs, AEOs and CRCs.
Representatives from five blocks, namely Namchi, Ravangla, Temi, Yangang, and Namthang, attended the event. However, three other Blocks reported that there were no residents available to take part in such initiatives in their respective areas.
The blocks were represented by Volunteer Teachers, Learners, and Education Officials, as well as staff from all Blocks.
The event commenced with a welcome speech and an introduction to the ULLAS programme by Mr. Tilak Chettri, Assistant Director, District Education Office.
The programme saw the presentation of learning materials in the form of charts and models, which were prepared by the learners themselves. Additionally, Volunteer Teachers from Namthang, Namchi, and Temi contributed to the event by presenting dance performances, adding a cultural touch to the gathering.
A significant part of the programme was the session where Volunteer Teachers and Learners shared their experiences. The sharing session was especially inspiring, as the learners, who had been part of the ULLAS programme, showcased their newfound skills. Many of them expressed their ability to use digital platforms and perform digital payments, highlighting the success of the initiative in empowering them with digital literacy.
Furthermore, all Volunteer Teachers made a commitment to achieving 100% literacy in their respective areas by 2027, marking a significant pledge towards enhancing education in the region.
The programme concluded with a speech by the Chief Guest, Mr. G.P. Sharma, Joint Director, District Education Office. The vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. K.B. Gurung, Deputy Director, District Education Office Namchi.
