The Annual Day Celebration of Sikkim Institute of Science and Technology with the theme of 50 years of statehood. The event aimed to celebrate the achievements of the 2023-24 academic year, recognize the talents of the students and honor those who have excelled in various fields.
The event was graced by the presence of Honorable Minister Education, Youth, Parliamentary Affairs and Law Departments, Government of Sikkim, Shri Raju Basnet as the Chief Guest, Shri A.B Subba, PCE cum Secretary, Education Department, Government of Sikkim , Shri C.K Pradhan Chief Engineer, Education Department, Government of Sikkim, Shri Yogendra Pradhan, Divisional Engineer, Education Department, Government of Sikkim, Joint Director, Education, Namchi District and other special guests.
The arrival of the chief guest and other dignitaries at 9:30AM in SIST, Chisopani marked the commencement of the event. Surrounded by warm hospitalities Honorable Education Minister accompanied by Principal cum Director Prof Dr. B.B Pradhan, SIST Chisopani and other dignitaries visited the various state of the art laboratories and other facilities of the institution. After the institution visit the dignitaries made their way towards the program hall.
The welcome address was presented by Dr C.P. Khatiwada, who, in his address heartily welcomed the guests of SIST with warm wishes.
The Chief Guest and Special Guests were then invited to light the Diya with the serene tune of Saraswati Vandana and college anthem of SIST accompanying the sacred ceremony. After the inaugural lighting of the lamp, the Principal-cum-Director of SIST, Prof (Dr) B.B. Pradhan welcomed the Chief Guest and other guests by offering them Khada and bouquet along with a token of love from SIST.
The event then officially began with the College Choir performing the College Theme song followed by the address and presentation of the Annual Report of Academic Year 2023-24 by the Principal-cum-Director, in which the accomplishments, achievements, academic as well as administrative and financial data of the institute for the year 2023-24 was highlighted.
The event then proceeded with the felicitation of the Chief Guest Hon’ble Minister Shri Raju Basnet, Special Guest Divisional Engineer, Shri Yogendra Pradhan, and Administrator Shri K.N. Chettri, for their noble, kind, and magnanimous support and guidance to the institute. With the guests felicitated, the event moved on with a traditional dance by the students which was a magnificent display of amalgamation of the different tribes and cultures of Sikkim. The next performance was a mesmerizing song by one of the students, Kunal, with his own touch to the timeless classics of Bollywood.
Then Special Guest Principal Chief Engineer cum Secretary, Shri A.B. Subba proceeded to address the gathering on request and delivered an inspiring talk to the students. The next performance left the audience in awe as the students performed a semi-classical dance full of vibrant energy and elegance.
This was followed by the official launch of the brand-new website and the 1st Edition of Annual Magazine of the institute. The Chief Guest and Special Guests unveiled the website and unwrapped the magazine to officially launch them both. The next section was a performance by one of the students, Unish Rai, whose beautiful voice mesmerized the audience.
The song was followed by a beautiful recitation of an original Nepali poem by Dr C.P. Khatiwada. Then the programmed moved on to the Prize Distribution Ceremony in which selected Academic Support Staff members namely Mr. Bhusan Pradhan, Lab Technician, Computer Engineering and Mr. Navin Dhakal, Lab Assistant, Chemistry, were shown appreciation for their hard work and dedication to their service with gifts.
Next, the Best Students of the Academic year 2023-24 from both the departments were awarded along with the Toppers from each semester with the highest CGPA, NPTEL exam topper, and NSS Student Co-ordinator for their academic achievements.
Also all the guards and safai karmacharis were given token of appreciations for their dedication and contribution towards the progress and growth of SIST.
The winners of different categories of outdoor and indoor sports which were hosted at the Sports Meet held in the month of September 2024 were also awarded with certificates and medals by the Chief Guest and Principal-cum-Director. Next, sponsor and guest, Mr Dhiren Chettri, Contractor, was also presented with a token of love and appreciation from the institute.
The programme then proceeded with the address by the Hon’ble Chief Guest, who focused on the students and advised them on how the opportunity of studying and becoming an engineer can be utilised in numerous ways in order to be industry-ready engineers who can use their knowledge and apply those in solving real life problems. Hon’ble Chief Guest in his address highlighted how SIST has aspirations to become a top government engineering college not only in the state but also the entire north eastern region.
The Hon’ble minister in his speech also highlighted, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri P.S Tamang’s constant support and encouragement to the students of the state.The programme then witnessed another performance by the students on a Nepali Classic and then followed the Vote of thanks, with which the Annual Day Function 2024 of Sikkim Institute of Science and Technology was successfully organised.
