R-Day celebrated at Namchi District

Namchi, 26th January (IPR): The 74th Republic Day was observed amidst much gaiety at Namchi Senior Secondary School, today. Organized by Namchi District Administration Centre the Chief Guest for the occasion was Speaker, Sikkim Legislative Assembly, Mr. Arun Upreti. He was accompanied by Chairman, Skill Development Department, Mr. Satish Chandra Rai, Chairman, Building and Housing Department, Mr. Tashi Tamang, DC (Namchi) Mr. M. Bharani Kumar, SP (Namchi) Mr. Manish Kumar Verma, ADC (Namchi) Mr. Anant Jain, ASP (Namchi) Mr. Ankur Ankesh, DSP (HQ) Mr. C. P. Shilal, Vice- Chairperson Namchi Municipal Council Ms. Sabitri Tamang, other Councillors, Staff, Former Servicemen and students at large.
At, the onset the Chief Guest was accorded with the Guard of Honour, followed by the unfurling of the tricolour and rendering of the National Anthem.
Thereafter, the Republic Day message of the Governor Mr. Ganga Prasad and the Chief Minister Mr. Prem Singh Tamang was read out by DC (Namchi) and ADC (Namchi), respectively.
Addressing, the gathering, Chief Guest, Speaker, Mr. Arun Upreti extended his warm greetings on the occasion of the 74th Republic Day of our great nation. He underlined the significance of this day and recalled the immortal sacrifices made by the freedom fighters. He briefed that this day also commemorates the establishment of the Indian Constitution, and that it was on 26 January 1950 that it came into effect. The constitution was made by the Drafting Committee, headed by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and that this constitution affirms the countries existence as an independent republic. He added that the constitution states fundamental rights that are to be enjoyed by all citizens of this country. It also establishes fundamental duties for all citizens of the country to abide by.
The Speaker also highlighted a host of developmental activities accomplished by the State Government and mentioned the various initiatives undertaken by them in the field of health and education sector. Efforts have been made to facilitate a healthy society by providing specialist in every corner of the state. He informed about the upcoming project which is the 300 bedded hospital in Namchi. The State Government in a short span on time has established new super specialities and haemodialysis centres. Concerning the education sector the Speaker updated that the State Government has taken concrete steps to improve the educational system in the state and reiterated that a university will soon be established in Rong Bul GPU under Namchi District. In, order to provide a holistic education as well as to improve the education standards and also give equal opportunity to the youths the State Government will create education institutes in all the constituencies, he added.
