Random checking of shops by Food & Civil Supplies Department, Namchi District

Namchi, 17th November: In compliance of order of Secretary (Food & Civil Supplies Department) random checking of sale of inferior quality salt, has been conducted in and around Namchi Bazar, today. A team lead by DCSO (Namchi) Mr. Tenzing Bhutia undertook the inspection of wholesale shop as well as other outlets as well. Present during the inspection were Asstt. Director, (Namchi Food Go-Down) Mr. Milan Silwal, Inspector (LMU/Jorethang) Mr. Krishna Kr. Manger and Office Attendant (Namchi Food Go-down) Ms. Premela Chettri.
Random checking of following wholesale shops/other Outlets namely:

2. M/S Daily Needs
3. M/s Antima Enterprise (wholesaler)
4. M/S Sunil Kr. Gupta
5. M/S Shiseer Rai
6. M/S Ganesh Modi
7. M/S Latta Store
8. M/S Mohal Lall Gupta
9. M/S Sushila Rai
During the inspection it was observed that most of the cost of cold drinks and dairy milk are overcharged exceeding MRP, the excuse of the additional charges was the said product being chilled in cold storage which is against the rule. Some noodle packets were found without MRP and expiry date which may be hazardous to the publics health. In some shops, daily consumable goods like puffed rice, biscuits and chips etc are found displayed for selling beyond expiry date and they have been warned and undertaking from all these errant shop keepers have been taken not to repeat these practices.
Attention of all consumers are called that the State Government is always insisting on healthy food for which it is the duty of all consumers to check carefully the expiry date of goods before using it. Proper receipt of goods purchased from particular shops is obtained for future reference to deal with legal complications out of food adulteration.
This kind of random checking shall be continued throughout the District without informing the shopkeepers and responsibilities shall be fixed as per norms to the defaulters.
