Rural Development Department wins Namchi District Inter-Department Football Tournament, 2023

Namchi, Dec 2(IPR): Namchi District Inter-Department Football Tournament, 2023 themed ‘Uniting Departments, Transforming Lives through the Sports’ was successfully concluded at Bhaichung Stadium, today. The league cum knockout tournament was organised by the Sports & Youth Affairs Department in collaboration with District Administrative Centre, Namchi.
Mr Tashi Dorjee Tamang Chairman (Building and Housing Department) had graced the event as the chief guest wherein Mr Basant Yonzon President of Namchi Football Association was present as the guest of honour. Present during the occasion were, Mr M Bharani Kumar DC(Namchi), Dr T N Gyatsho Bhutia SSP(Namchi), Mrs Tshering Ongmu Bhutia JD (Sports & Youth Affairs),Mr Basant Pradhan Deputy Director (Sports & Youth Affairs) along with other Officiers from line department and spectators at large.
The final match was played between the Rural Development Department (RDD) and Sikkim Police wherein the former won the match with the score line of 1-0.
During the occasion, the organising committee also presented a memento to Mr. Bharani Kumar DC (Namchi) for his valuable support and contribution towards organising the tournament.
The event also saw cultural and musical performances by the students of Namchi Senior Secondary School.
It may be mentioned here that a total of 21 teams from line departments participated in the tournament. The final match of the tournament was originally scheduled for 15 October, 2023, but due to the occurrence of a flash flood on 4 October, the tournament got postponed.
