Shyadar Pidar (Ubhauli Puja), 2022

Namchi, 16th May (IPR): Shyadar Pidar was celebrated with much zeal and enthusiasm at Niz Rameng Ward, today. Organized by Sikkim Sunuwar (Mukhia) Koinchbu the Chief Guest for the occasion was Area MLA Soreng-Chakung constituency Mr. Aditya Golay, Minister Building and Housings Department Mr. Sanjit Kharel alongside President Sikkim Sunwar Mukhia Koinchbu Mr. D. B. Mukhia and representatives from the community.
At, the outset the dignitaries offered their obeisance at a traditional shrine set up at the premises.
Addressing, the gathering MLA Mr. Aditya Golay also extended his warm greetings on the auspicious day of Shyadar Pidar, 2022. He added that this day also coincides with 47th State Day of Sikkim and Buddha Purnima and complimented his greetings as well. He spoke at length about the importance of this event and informed that this day is particularly observed as to offer gratitude to nature for healthy agriculture and other good fortunes. Additionally, he emphasized upon the importance of preserving the unique culture and tradition of the various communities of the state and said that these cultures and traditions has it’s own several key elements which have been passed from generation to generation so as to instil an exclusive form of self-identity which is infused with rituals and value. He said that such type of heritage should be preserved. He also proposed a way to preserve our heritage, which can be done via the support of digital technology. He further informed that a ‘Devi Mandir’ will also be build at the premises by the State Government.
Mr. Golay also spelled out the various progressive initiatives shaped by the State Government such as Aama Yojna Scheme and many other welfare projects.
Speaking during the function Minister Mr. Sanjit Kharel extended his best wishes on the occasion of Shyadar Pidar, 47th State Day of Sikkim and on propitious day of Buddha Purnima. He also informed that establishment of a Temple at the premises will be conducted by the State Government, at the earliest. He briefly highlighted the traditional heritage and cultural importance of the Shyadar Pidar festival and emphasised how the younger generation should imbibe the cultural sentiments attached with the celebration of Shyadar Pidar or Ubhauli Puja. Drawing attention towards the rich history and heritage of Sikkim, he informed that the State Government has laid focus on the development of various communities present in the State and said that the State Government will continuously work towards identifying and protecting the various languages and cultural identity of the different communities of the state. Moreover, he listed out various developmental projects which is being set up at Namthang-Rateypani constituency such as setting up of educational institutes and other amenities which is being prepared for the benefit of the public at large.
President Organizing Committe Mr. D. B. Mukhia spoke in brief about the importance of Shyadar Pidar and it’s importance in the community. He added, that Shyadar Pidar, also known as ‘Ubhauli Puja’ , gives thanks to nature and seek her blessings for healthy agriculture and general well- being in the year ahead. He also put forward various demands for the benefit of the community.
Sikkim Sunwar Mukhia Koinchbu also felicitated various individuals who have contributed in upliftment of the community. Chief Minister Mr. Prem Singh Tamang was also felicitated for relentlessly elevating the state and its citizens towards greater heights. Other personals who were honoured were Landoners Mr. Ratna Bahadur Sunwar and Mr. Kesher Singh Sunwar followed by (Naso, Shaman) Mr. Kumar Mukhia and Dr. C. B. Sunwar.
Various cultural extravaganza were showcased during the course of the event.
