Sikkim Design Week 2025 – Namchi District Chapter Concludes Successfully

Namchi, 20 May (IPR): The District-Level edition of Sikkim Design Week 2025, under the Sikkim Integrated Service Provision and Innovation for Reviving Economics (INSPIRES) initiative, successfully concluded today in Namchi. The event was organised by the Department of Commerce and Industries, Government of Sikkim, in collaboration with the National Institute of Design (NID),ALSiSAR and Anime and Manga Workshop (Kapi Studio).
The two-day workshop served as a dynamic platform for the exchange of ideas, creativity, and innovation. It aimed to promote design thinking and encourage innovation among local artisans, entrepreneurs, and students.
The programme included interactive sessions, panel discussions, and personalised design consultations focused on sustainable business practices at the grassroots level.
The event was graced by Deputy Speaker Sikkim Legislative Assembly Ms Raj Kumari Thapa, as the Chief Guest, and MLA Namchi-Singithang Constituency Mr Satish Chandra Rai, as the Guest of Honour. They were joined by Ms Choden Gyatso Additional Secretary/Director of Industries, Ms Anupa Tamling, DC Namchi, the Commandant of 4 Sikkim Battalion NCC Namchi; and officers and staff from the Department of Commerce and Industries.
In her address, the Chief Guest expressed heartfelt appreciation for the organisers and praised the initiative’s success. She emphasised the importance of fostering entrepreneurship among the youth, noting that such events empower young minds to innovate and contribute to nation-building.
She also highlighted the Chief Minister’s scholarship scheme for students from economically weaker sections, ensuring equal access to education.
Further, she encouraged students to make the best use of the insights gained during the workshops and called for regular entrepreneurial workshops and interactions with successful business figures at the school level to inspire future generations.
MLA Mr Satish Chandra Rai, also conveyed his gratitude to the Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang, for his visionary leadership through schemes like ‘One Family, One Entrepreneur’, which enabled the organisation of such impactful programmes.
He appreciated the department’s efforts and offered constructive feedback to local entrepreneurs on improving their businesses and expanding their market reach.
Ms Choden Gyatso Bhutia, in her keynote speech, elaborated on the significance of the Namchi Chapter of Sikkim Design Week. She stressed the role of design support and mentorship in building a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem both in the district and across the state.
Mr Ashish Bhujel SHO Namchi, gave a brief presentation on the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ campaign, urging collective efforts to make Sikkim a drug-free state. He informed attendees about the 24×7 dedicated helpline number 9046245044, available for reporting drug-related cases.
The programme also celebrated local talent, with local entrepreneurs being felicitated for their outstanding contributions to innovation and community development.
These recognitions not only honoured individual achievements but also showcased the district’s rich potential.
Cultural highlights included a musical presentation by the ‘Rhythm of Rangeet’ choir team from 4 Sikkim NCC Namchi and a traditional Newari dance performance by Ms Manju Pradhan, which added colour and vibrancy to the event.
It is also worth noting that, prior to the commencement of the concluding programme of Sikkim Design Week – Namchi Chapter, the Chief Guest formally inaugurated District Industries Centre, located on the top floor of Namchi Plaza. Following this, the Chief Guest paid a brief visit to the stalls set up at Central Park, where, accompanied by the MLA, District Collector, and other officials, they interacted with the entrepreneurs and attendees present at the venue.
The event concluded with renewed enthusiasm and a shared vision for continued collaboration to drive local economic development through innovation and design. The vote of thanks was delivered by Joint Secretary Mr Topden Zangpo Bhutia.
