Sikkim Paryavaran Parva Flagged Off

Namchi, 1st July: The Sikkim Paryavaran Parva to be celebrated from 1-14 July, 2023 was flagged off by the Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang at Jorethang today.
This is the first edition of the festival being anchored by the Forest and Environment Department. This comprehensive initiative is based on the firm commitment to preserving our planet and fostering a sustainable future. It aims to address pressing environmental challenges and promote responsible stewardship of our natural resources. Several innovative and impactful initiatives are planned in the upcoming fortnight, these include free distribution of seedlings, large-scale plantations, conserving endangered species, cleanup drives, curbing use of single use plastics, promoting zero waste and sustainable lifestyles, quiz, essay and poem competitions, green reels competition, sustainable birding workshop, water conservation and rejuvenation, responsible solid waste management workshop, skits, clean air campaign, paryavaran rallies, green walks, greenathon and many others. Within this fortnight, A Day for Mother Earth will be celebrated in a grand manner on 7th July and the Santati Saptah from 7-14th July, 2023. The Santati Saptah is a part of the Mero Rukh Mero Santati (MrMs) initiative of the State Government where 108 plants will be planted to celebrate every childbirth.The Sikkim Paryavaran Parva strives to create a greener and more sustainable world by engaging individuals, communities, and organizations, to foster a collective sense of responsibility towards our environment and inspire positive change.
