SKM secures mandate in the Namchi District Assembly Election
Namchi, June 02 (IPR): The political arena of Namchi district witnessed a sweeping victory for the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) today as the counting for all seven Assembly Constituencies wrapped up at Namchi Government College, Kamrang.
The triumphant SKM candidates are: Mr Rikshal Dorjee Bhutia for 09-Barfung, Mr Bhoj Raj Rai for 10-Poklok-Kamrang, Mrs Krishna Kumari Rai for 11-Namchi-Singithang, Mr Nar Bahadur Pradhan for 12-Melli, Mr Sanjeet Kharel for 13-Namthang-Rateypani, Mr Bedu Singh Panth for 14-Temi-Namphing, and Mrs Raj Kumari Thapa for 15-Rangang-Yangang.
Commencing at 6 am in accordance with Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines, the counting process began with the tallying of postal ballots and the scanning of Electronically Transmitted Postal Ballot System (ETPBS) votes, followed by the counting of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) at 6:30 am.
Among the notable victories, Mrs Krishna Kumari Rai’s win in the Namchi-Singithang constituency stands out due to its political significance. In a historic triumph, she secured 7907 votes, marking SKM’s first-ever win in this constituency, which had been a stronghold of the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) party for decades.
The entire counting operation was overseen by Mrs Annapurna Alley, DEO Namchi, alongside a list of dedicated Returning Officers (ROs) for each constituency.
Also present were Ms Geetha A, General Observer for 10- Poklok Kamrang and 13- Namthang Rateypani, Mr Vivek Padam Singh, Counting Observer for 12- Melli and 09- Barfung, Ms Sangita Lal for 15- Rangang Yangang, and Ms Lakshamamma P for 11- Namchi Singithang and 14- Temi Namphing. Counting agents from various political factions were also present.
The DEO Namchi and the ROs of the respective constituencies handed over the Certificates of Election to the jubilant winners.
After the counting process was completed and the results declared, the strong rooms were sealed in the presence of DEO Namchi, ROs, Observers, AROs and counting agents from various political parties. The entire procedure was videographed.
