Namchi, Jan 20 (IPR): Sports and Youth Affairs Department in collaboration with Jorethang Maghey Sankranti Mela organising committee hosted various of sport activities.
Present for the day was Mrs Tshering Ongmu Bhutia, Joint Director SYA Department and other officials and organising committee members.
CM 1 Mile Run, Marathon, Tug of war, Shotput throw, musical chair, sack rave and cock fighting were the activities hosted today.
The CM 1 Mile run started from Jorethang ground to Sisney mandir . In the men’s category, Mr Kelly Bhutia stood first, Mr Nevnakh Subba and Mr Uttam Pakhrin stood second and third respectively. Likewise, in the womem’s category, Ms Sohenne Limboo became first, Ms Dikila Chettri and Ms Anusha Rai secured second and third position respectively.
In 21 km Open Half Marqthon above the age of 17 yrs, in men’s category, Mr Bikash Bhujel came first followed by Mr Puran Rai as second and Mr Karan Rawat as third. Accordingly in the women’s category, Ms Chandrakala Sharma came first, Ms Sabina Rai as second and Ms Anjuli Subba as third. The marathon started from Jorethang ground and had to turn back from Budang fatak and back to the ground again
In the Tug-of-War, Muscle Hut Gym Jorethang defeated Gyalshing-Bermiok team and entered the final and will be competing against the team of Daramdin, who defeated the team of Maneybong-Dentam to enter the final.
In the Shotput throw event, Mr Prem kumar bagged the first place followed by Mr Joseph Sharma second and Navin Chettri in the third place.
Accordingly, in the musical chair event, Mrs Aruna Tamang became first and Ms Pema Lamu Bhutia second. Likewise, in the sack race event for boys, Mr Namrakh Subba came first with Mr Uttam Rai second and Ms Sesan Rai in the third place. Likewise, for the girls category, Ms Anisha Rai came first, Ms Yankila Bhutia second and Ms Angel Subba in the third place.
Accordingly, in the cock fight event for boys, Mr Bikram Tamang became first, followed by Mr Dupden Lepcha in the second and Mr Ashif Rawat in the third place.
All of the above winners, excluding the teams of Tug-of-War, were awarded with certificates, medals and cash prizes.
The marathon and CM 1 mile run event witnessed the participation from Mr Bharani M Kumar, DC Gyalshing and participants from neighbouring state.
On 21st January, final match of Tug-of-War and two football finale will be hosted.
