STOP Diarrhoea Campaign with the slogan “Diarrhoea ki Roktham, Safai aur ORS se Rakhen Apna Dhyaan” launched

Namchi, 2 July: STOP Diarrhoea Campaign with the slogan “Diarrhoea ki Roktham, Safai aur ORS se Rakhen Apna Dhyaan” was launched on 1st July at District Hospital Namchi in presence of Chief Medical Officer Dr S.N.Adhikari, Joint Director Education Mr G.P.Sharma, representatives from Dept of Women & Child Development, CNO, DPHNO,IEC Personnels,MCH staff, ASHAs and the general public.
The launch programme started with a welcome address by DHPNO Mrs Jayanti Sharma.
CNO Mrs Bijay Laxmi Rai briefed the audience on the Campaign and highlighted the key intervention activities that will be carried out from the 1st of July till the 31st of August 2024.
Joint Director Education Dept, also addressed the audience on importance of coordination with line departments for a successful campaign.
CMO South highlighted the need for continuous intervention programs throughout the year and the link between diarrhoeal diseases and other childhood illnesses like pneumonia.
The programme ended with a Vote of thanks by DHEO Ms Roshni Thapa.
The goal of STOP Diarrhoea Campaign is to reach zero child deaths due to Diarrhoea. Childhood Diarrhoeal diseases contribute to 5.8% of deaths in 0 to 5 yrs children which can be prevented by treating dehydration by using ORS & Zinc tablets.
Childhood Diarrhoeal deaths can also be prevented through exclusive breastfeeding,timely introduction of complimentary feeding,Sanitation and Hygiene,Use of safe drinking water and Immunization against Rotavirus.
Over the span of next two months starting from the 1st of July till the 31st of August, various intervention activities will be carried out both at the health facility level and the Community level.
Distribution of ORS and Zinc tablets to 0 – 5 yrs of age will be extensively carried out along with IEC programmes, demonstration of Handwashing techniques /ORS preparation in schools and villages.
ORS and Zinc corners will be set up across Anganwadi Centres and Health facilities for treatment of Diarrhoea.
Prior to the launch, all health care workers and ASHAs at the District and periphery were oriented on activities to be carried out from the 1st of July 2024.
