The Governor, Shri. Lakshman Prasad Acharya visits Sadam, Suntaley under Namchi District

Namchi, 14th September(IPR): Governor Shri. Lakshman Prasad Acharya attended the foundation day of Saipatri Sangh Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) at the community hall of Sadam Suntaley, today.
The day witnessed the presence of the Minister for Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Shri. L. N. Sharma, Area MLA Smt. Farwanti Tamang, MLA (Gangtok) Shri. Y. T. Lepcha, Zilla Adhakshya (Namchi) Ms. Anjeeta Rai, DC(Namchi) Shri. M Bharani Kumar, SDPO (Namchi) Shri. Mingyur T. Nadik along with officials of the Horticulture and Agriculture Department and other line departments, representatives of the NGO, Panchayats, progressive farmers and students.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Shri. Lakshman Prasad Acharya congratulated Saipatri Sangh NGO on their foundation day. He handed over a sum of rupees one lakh fifty thousand to this NGO for the welfare of the farmers.
The Governor, applauded the progressive farmers of this GPU in focusing on agriculture and livestock farming. He added that this GPU is one of the most advanced village with its organic produce and fisheries activities. He emphasised that the agricultural schemes and projects of the State and Central Government needs to be utilised at its fullest and to its optimum potential. He shared that Sikkim is one of the state which is known for its organic farming and underscored to continue this activity and bring laurels to the state as well as the country. He motivated in bringing an Atma Nirbar Society in terms of farming and highlighted examples of Kissan Credit Card, PM Kisan Samman Nidhi and many more projects put up by the government for the benefit of the progressive farmers.
Calling upon the students the Governor informed that they should be determined and should inculcate the objective of achieving higher goals in their respective lives as the future of the country depends on them. Moreover, he spoke in detail about the National Cadet Corps which aims to develop character, comradeship, discipline, a secular outlook, the spirit of adventure and ideals of selfless service amongst young citizens.
Speaking during the programme Shri. L.N. Sharma underlined that the Governor visiting the areas of the farmers is a commendable act from his part, as it gives encouragement to the farmers in continuing their profession. He further quoted ‘Agriculture and Livestock is future and future is Agricultural and Livestock’ and urged the attendees to follow this quote and aim to increase the food production of our state both in quality and quantity. Additionally, he also appraised the various steps taken by the department in successfully implementing the schemes of Central as well as State Government and how these schemes have aided in uplifting the individuals practising their agricultural occupation. Delving, about education sector he highlighted about Medhavi Skill University, which will facilitate in imparting skill integrated higher education and upskilling Sikkimese youth, regarding this, he asserted the students to enroll in such universities set up by the state government for education and employment.
During the programme, President of Saipatri Sangh, Shri. Birbal Chhetri, expressed his gratitude towards the Governor on attending the foundation day of the NGO. He also briefed about the NGO, which was started in 2008 and added that this NGO has been set up with the contribution of progressive farmers.
The Governor was felicitated by the members of NGO, which was followed by the distribution of agriculture and horticulture farming tools like power tillers, chaff cutters, cheques from Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and from Pig Production Incentive Scheme (PPIS) and RCC water tank.
Earlier today, the Governor alongwith the Minister and other officials visited the farms of Shri .Kumar Chettri and Shri. Gopal Chhetri who grows tomatoes(Romeo species), cherry peppers and beans. He also inspected the ornamental grass carp and common carp fish farms of Smt. Punam Limboo and Smt. Lachi Maya Chettri.
Thereafter, the Governor transplanted broccoli seedling in one of the farms, followed by a short interaction with the progressive farmers.
