Tourism and Civil Aviation Department Namchi organises Cycling Event as a part of Sikkim’s 50th Statehood Celebration

Namchi, May 17 (IPR): Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, Namchi, organized a 34km cycling competition today to celebrate Sikkim’s 50th year of statehood. The event saw enthusiastic participation from cyclists across the State.
The event was graced by Area MLA Mr Satish Chandra Rai as the chief guest who flagged off the cycling competition.
In his speech, he praised the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department for their consistent efforts in promoting Namchi as a notable tourism destination. He also shared his experience from a previous event organized by the department, where participants took a scenic heritage walk along the Perbing route. Additionally, he invited everyone to join a walkathon from Namchi to Maniram scheduled for tomorrow.
A total of 21 cyclists successfully completed the two-way race that commenced from Kishan Market in Namchi to Taray Bhir in Sadam and back. The event saw participants navigating a challenging yet picturesque route, showcasing the natural beauty and serene landscapes of the Namchi region.
The winners of the event were:
Gold Medal: Anush Sherpa
Silver Medal: Ganesh Prasai
Bronze Medal: Raaz Rai
Following the cycling event, the Tourism Information Centre (TIC), Namchi treated attendees to vibrant cultural performances performed by the staff of TIC and a lively ramp walk by the children of Ark Academy.
The event, which was free for all participants, aimed to promote tourism and healthy lifestyles while commemorating Sikkim’s historic milestone of 50 years of Statehood.
The Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation expressed gratitude to all participants, volunteers, and spectators for making the event a grand success.
Present during the programme were Dy Dir(T&CAv) Ms Lamin Theengh, DIO(Namchi) Ms Deepti Pradhan, AD(T&CAv) Dipti Rai and officials from Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, Namchi.
