Jorethang is an important town in South Sikkim district. It lies at a distance of 30 kms in the north of Darjeeling. Sited on a flattened land, Jorethang is also nestled between the huge mountains and hills in Sikkim.

The Jorethang Maghe Mela is held every year in January. It is the major event which attracts thousands of locals and tourists. Hundreds of stalls are put up for selling and exhibiting various local products as well products from other states across the country. Local cultural events are also held throughout the mela. The mela is said to have evolved from the agricultural fair that was held in Jorethang for the first time in 1955.

How to Reach:

By Air

The nearest airport is Bagdogra in West Bengal about 90 kms from Jorethang which is a domestic airport and connected to the nearest international airport being Kolkata in West Bengal.

By Train

The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri Station in West Bengal about 88 kms from Jorethang from where one can avail trains to different parts of the country.

By Road

Jorethang is approximately about 83 km from Siliguri. The Sikkim Nationalised Transport (SNT) buses plies regularly from Namchi to towns within the state and Siliguri. Private taxis are also available on regular basis for hire or on shared basis.
