Turning “waste to worth”: SHGs Sustainable Bags unveiled under the Aspirational Block Programme and 50 yeas of Statehood

Namchi, January 26 (IPR): In a landmark initiative under the Aspirational Block Programme and as part of the 50 Years of Statehood celebrations, Dream Dresser SHG Sorok launched eco-friendly products crafted from repurposed program banners. This innovative project was inaugurated on the 76th Republic Day by Mr. Satish Chandra Rai, MLA 11-Namchi-Singhithang under the leadership of, Ms. Anupa Tamling, DC Namchi.
Celebrating five decades of statehood, this initiative aligns with the mission to promote cleanliness, better waste management, and rural development. It also supports the Aspirational Block Programme’s focus on improving Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in Social Development by fostering women’s empowerment and sustainability.
Through this project, over 35 discarded program banners, often wasted after single use, have been creatively transformed into reusable items like bags, flower pots, and dustbins. These products not only tackle waste reduction but also symbolise the state’s progress in innovation and resourcefulness.
This initiative highlights the integral role of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in driving change. Dream Dresser SHG Sorok empowers women by providing them with opportunities to contribute to the economy while addressing pressing environmental challenges. The group’s work embodies the essence of the Aspirational Block Programme by promoting skill-building, rural entrepreneurship, and sustainable development.
