Two-Day State-Level Celebration of Tendong Lho Rum Faat Concludes

Namchi, 8th August(IPR): On the concluding day of the two-day state-level celebration of Tendong Lho Rum Faat 2022 Education Minister Mr. K.N.Lepcha attended the programme as its Chief Guest at Nali Partam, today.
The program had the presence of Speaker (SLA) Mr L.B. Das, Deputy Speaker(SLA) Mr. Sangay Lepcha Cabinet Ministers alongwith MLAs, Advisors, chairpersons and other guests.The program was also attended by the Chairman (Primitive Tribal Welfare Board) Mr Chewang Norbu Lepcha, APS (East) Mr. Tshering Wangchuk Lepcha, President of Renzong Mutanchi Ringmom Kurmom (RMRK) Mr. O.T. Lepcha along with officials of department, police personnel, students and people from all walks of life.
The two-day state-level celebration organised by the Tendong Lho Rum Faat Committee 2022 in coordination with Sikkim Lepcha Youth Association and Sikkim Lepcha Literary Committee commenced from 7th August onwards which was organised keeping in view the theme of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
At the outset , the event was marked with a spiritual prayer that was performed by the Mun and Bongthing. They invoked the deities for peace and the benefit of all sentient beings.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest extended his warm greetings on the occasion of the Tendong Lho Rum Faat celebration. He underlined the importance of observing cultural and traditional festivities to protect the diversity of every community. He said that with the challenges of the contemporary times it has become important in keeping up with tradition as it shall uphold a sense of belonging and thereby an overall development of a community can be looked into. Further, he also spoke that the State Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Prem Singh Tamang has and will unwaveringly support the various communities of Sikkim in preserving its rich heritage, values, beliefs, and aspirations. He urged all the community leaders especially the younger generation to take forward the practise of conserving the unique culture as with changing times these elements are fading amongst the community. Moreover, he informed that different aspects of invaluable culture that benefits all mankind such as folklore, language, and hosting of traditional events should be implored and continued for posterity sake.
Cabinet Minister cum President Celebration Committee Mr. Samdup Lepcha enlightened the gathering about the importance of Tendong Lho Rum Faat which translates to Prayer of the Tendong Mountain. He briefed how the holy Tendong Hill saved the ancestors from a great deluge and the tradition of praying to the hill is retained by the community over the years.
The program also saw felicitation of various eminent personalities of the Lepcha Community for their contribution in various fields. Besides, the celebration committee also gave the Tendong Awards 2022 to Mr. Dup Tshering Lepcha
Traditional cultural performance of different communities was displayed by various school students. A short trailer of Lepcha Movie ‘Myth’ directed by Amir Gurung was also premiered at the program.
