Union Minister of State for Education Dr. Subhas Sarkar, Government of India, paid a visit to Namchi District

Namchi, 16th September (IPR): After the school visit Union Minister of State for Education Dr. Subhas Sarkar presided over a meeting held at DAC Namchi, which aimed at assessing and reviewing the Achievements and Challenges of various departments.
The Education Department of Namchi District showcased their remarkable accomplishments and ongoing efforts, including programs such as Jolly Phonics for English language development and the promotion of Coding and Computational Skills. They also highlighted significant achievements in academic and extracurricular fields, with district schools excelling in state-level competitions such as:
1. Namchi Girls Senior Secondary School achieved first place in the female category of Band Competition at the national level.
2. Namchi New Senior Secondary School secured the first position in the state-level patriotic song competition.
3. Namchi New Senior Secondary School also clinched the top spot in the state-level Solo Drama competition.
4. Namchi Senior Secondary School achieved first place in the state-level Tabala Badan competition.
5. Namchi New Senior Secondary School emerged as the second-highest scorer in All India Secondary School Examination (AISSE) in the year 2022.
Moreover, seven schools from the district were honored with the Swach Vidhyalaya Puruskar (SVP) under the central scheme in 2022. These schools included Temi Senior Secondary School, Maniram Secondary School, South Point Academy Ravangla, Phamphok Junior High School, Singhithang Junior High School, Upper Yangyang Junior High School, and Jorethang Senior Secondary School.
The presentation also emphasised various achievements under central schemes like NIPUN BHARAT (NIPUN SIKKIM) and Meri Maati Mera Desh. Additionally, ten schools were selected for the PM SHRI Scheme. Furthermore, the National Means cum Merit Scholarship (NMMS) benefited 17 students, and 18 students who received the PRENA Merit Scholarship in the year 2022-23.
The MoS directed the Officials of Education department to conduct regular visits at schools and set a clear goal of enhancing the efficiency of government schools. He emphasised the importance of striving to surpass private schools in terms of quality and performance.
Dr. Nation Chamling, Deputy Director, Agriculture Department in his presentation highlighted that Namchi District has been a significant contributor to millet production and actively supported the International Year of Millets. He added that through the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY), there has been a notable increase in the irrigated area. Additionally, he said that the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi (PMKISAN) program has successfully made 14,580 payments to farmers. He also underlined about the innovative component of the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) scheme, Trichoderma and Mushroom Spawn Production labs which were established to meet the demand from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs). He stated that 13,000 soil health cards have been distributed to benefit farmers. Furthermore, he said that Namchi District has also extended coverage under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) to include wildlife cover. This resulted in farmers claiming 45 lakh rupees in 2021 and a notable increase to 86 lakhs in 2022.
ADC (Devlopment) RDD, Namchi Dr. C.P Rai underscored the accomplishments and obstacles related to ODF Plus Villages in the district, particularly the challenges associated with maintaining their status.
The achievements and hurdles concerning villages that have achieved ODF Plus status were discussed.
Emphasis was placed on the challenges linked to sustaining this ODF Plus status, which includes maintaining improved sanitation and hygiene practices.
He also reflected on the achievements in the Swachh Bharat Mission and Swachh Survekshan. Notably, there are a total of 73 Amrit Samovar’s in the district.
The Cooperative Department also highlighted their accomplishments in the context of the Prime Minister Vandhan Vikash Yojna (PMVVY), showcasing organic plant-based products. They are actively engaged in product development and providing training through 18 VDVK centre’s located in Namchi District.
The Sports Department introduced the benefit of two central funded schemes under Khelo India, one aimed at girls under 16 years of age and another for both male and female archers. These schemes received financial support of 7 lakhs each, enabling proper sports training for aspiring athletes and enhancing their performance.
The MoS thoroughly discussed the demonstration and was fully content over all the topics covered in the presentation.
Furthermore, he enthusiastically discussed about the several central government initiatives of Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) and Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) with the beneficiaries. During these interactions, the beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to PM Narendra Modi for the positive impact of these schemes.
Thereafter, the MoS along with the dignitaries proceeded towards Namchi Central Park where he Interacted with the local public.
Following that, he visited Siddheshwar Dham and extended his prayers to Lord Shiva
Accompanying the MoS were several distinguished guests, including Area MLA (Melli Constituency), DC Namchi, Sr. SP Namchi, ADC Namchi, ADC(DEV) Namchi, ADC(DEV) Ravangla, SDM (HQ) Namchi, SDM Namchi, HODs from various line departments and concerned Govt officials.
It is to be mentioned here that the three-day visit of MoS is slated to conclude on the 17th of September 2023.
