Melli, April 3 (IPR): Urban Development Department (UDD) conducted inspection at Melli Bazar, focusing on raising awareness about trade license renewal for 2025. This inspection follows the recent transfer of authority over Melli Bazar from the Melli Gram Panchayat Unit (GPU) to the UDD, effective from April 1.
The inspection team checked the validity of trade licenses and sublet licenses in Melli Bazar. Labour cards were also examined, and kitchens in restaurants and fast-food stalls were inspected for hygiene standards.
During the inspection, officials found several expired trade licenses, shops maintaining food in unhygienic conditions, and stalls encroaching on government land.
The team emphasised the need for compliance with regulations and urged business owners to renew their licenses on time.
Following the inspection, Additional Secretary Mr. Bishal Mukhia chaired a meeting with the Bazar Committee. He informed the members that, going forward, trade licenses for Melli will be issued by the UDD instead of the BDO office.
He also urged the Bazar Committee to initiate a cleanliness drive by dedicating one day each week to clean their premises, contributing to the beautification of Melli Bazar.
Addressing public health concerns, he stressed the importance of hygiene in restaurants and food stalls to prevent food borne illnesses.
The inspection team had the presence of Additional Secretary UDD Jorethang, Mr. Bishal Mukhia along with Deputy Secretary UDD Jorethang Mr K S Rai, Deputy Director UDD Namchi, Mr Biswa Chandra Rai, Deputy Director UDD Namchi Mr S K Rai and other staff from the UDD Jorethang and Namchi.
