Walkathon Flagged Off in Namchi as Part of 50th Statehood Celebration

Namchi, 18 May (IPR): Ms Shanti Rai Chief Coordinator of IHCAE and IMF Gold Medallist, officially flagged off a Walkathon today as part of the ongoing celebrations marking the 50th Statehood Anniversary. The event began at Namchi Central Park and concluded at Maniram.
The Walkathon was organised by the Tourism Information Centre (TIC), Namchi, under the Department of Tourism and Civil Aviation. A total of 72 participants from various backgrounds took part, reflecting the inclusive spirit of the event.
A concluding programme was held at Maniram, graced by the presence of the Area MLA Mr Satish Chandra Rai as the Chief Guest.
In his address, Mr Satish Chandra Rai highlighted the development initiatives aimed at promoting village tourism within the constituency. He specifically mentioned Perbing and Maniram as potential tourism hubs capable of generating local employment opportunities.
He further acknowledged the unwavering support of the Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang, towards the holistic development of the region.
He called upon all stakeholders to collaborate and work collectively for the greater good. He also extended his heartfelt appreciation to the Department, stakeholders, NGOs, and individuals who contributed to the successful organisation of the event.
The programme featured a cultural dance performance by the staff of TIC Namchi, adding a festive touch to the occasion.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Deputy Director (Tourism) Ms Lamim Theeng, Assistant Director (Tourism) Mrs Dipti Rai, Mr Himla Tamang of the Village Tourism Committee, along with TIC Namchi staff and members of the public.
It is noteworthy that TIC Namchi had organised a series of tourism-promoting activities from 15th May leading up to today’s event. These included a Heritage Walk, cycling events, and various awareness initiatives focused on showcasing the region’s tourism potential.
