Women, Child, Senior Citizens and Divyangjan Welfare Department Namchi Celebrates a Decade of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ and Post International Women’s Day

Namchi, March 15, (IPR): The Women, Child, Senior Citizen, and Divyangjan Welfare Department of Namchi recently hosted an event to mark the 10th anniversary of the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ scheme. Held at the Officers Club in Namchi, the occasion served as a post-International Women’s Day celebration, with the theme “Accelerate Action.”
The event was graced by the Mr Satish Chandra Rai Area MLA as the chief guest.
Also present during the event were Ms Anupa Tamling, DC Namchi cum Chairperson of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign Namchi, Mr Nim Pintso Bhutia SDM (HQ), HoOs of various departments, officers, police personnel, Anganwadi workers, and staff members of WCSCDWD
During his address, Mr Satish Chandra Rai commended the efforts of the women and members involved in the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign. He highlighted the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment in Sikkim. He also shared his plans for surprise visits to institutions and government departments, urging officers to maintain cleanliness and a well-organised working environment.
He further spoke about the future urban development of Namchi, including planned systematic upgrades and advancements in tourism infrastructure. He encouraged the youth to take full advantage of various government initiatives aimed at supporting their career prospects.
The event was enriched with cultural performances that showcased the diverse cultural heritage of Sikkim. Traditional dances from the Nepali, Lepcha, and Bhutia communities were performed, adding a vibrant touch to the celebrations.
A skit on the theme of ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ was also presented by the Women, Child, Senior Citizen, and Divyangjan Welfare Department, emphasizing the significance of girl child education and empowerment.
To acknowledge the hard work and dedication of various departments in promoting the objectives of the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ initiative, several departments were felicitated during the event.
Additionally, the CDPOs from Namchi, Melli, and Jorethang were honoured by Ms. Sophia Lepcha, AD Nutrition of Namchi, for their unwavering contributions to the programme’s success.
