World Toilet Day Observed at DAC Namchi
Namchi, 19 November (IPR): The launch of World Toilet Day was observed with a meeting held by the District Water and Sanitation Mission Committee at the District Administration Centre (DAC), Namchi, today.
The meeting was presided over by Ms. Tirsang Tamang ADC Namchi, and was attended by Dr. C P Rai ADC (Dev) Namchi, Mr Sunil Kumar Mothay ADC (Dev) Ravangla, Dr. S N Adhikari CMO Health, Mr Sanjeev Kumar Rajalim DE Zilla RDD, Mr Sagar Rai Deputy Director NDZP, and Ms. Deepti Pradhan DIO Namchi, along with other members from the Rural Development Department (RDD), Education Department, and Welfare Department.
During the meeting Ms Tirsang Tamang ADC Namchi, briefed everyone on the purpose of the gathering and urged all attendees to actively contribute to the ongoing sanitation campaign.
She emphasized the need to address water shortages in GPU schools and health centers, calling on Block Development Officers (BDOs) to look into the issue.
Additionally, she instructed all departments to provide progress reports on the campaign’s implementation at the next meeting.
Dr. C P Rai ADC (Dev) Namchi, shared details about the upcoming campaign to mark World Toilet Day, running from November 19 to December 10.
The campaign will be conducted at the District, GPU, and Block levels, focusing on the Repair, Restoration, and Refinement of Community Sanitary Complexes (CSCs) and Individual Household Toilets (IHTs).
He announced that on the final day of the campaign, two CSCs and five IHTs, which have been properly sanitized, will be recognized and awarded.
Mr Sunil Kumar Mothay ADC (Dev) Ravangla, discussed the district’s progress in improving water sanitation. He outlined plans to effectively manage solid and wet waste in local settlements and ensure a continuous water supply.
He also highlighted the importance of regular field visits and the establishment of a technical support structure for the Har Ghar Jal initiative.
Mr Sanjeev Kumar Rajalim DE Zilla RDD, provided an update on the Jal Jeevan Mission, which aims to provide every rural household in Namchi District with functional tap connections.
He reported that significant progress had been made in ensuring an uninterrupted water supply to 136 villages, underscoring the district’s ongoing efforts to achieve the mission’s objectives.
Earlier in the day, four individuals from Namchi District received work orders for Individual Household Toilets (IHTs), and two Community Sanitary Complexes (CSCs) orders were distributed to GPU members.
This meeting marked an important step towards promoting sanitation and water management in the region, as well as highlighting the collaborative efforts of multiple departments to improve public health and hygiene.
