World Water Day celebrated at Karfectar, Jorethang

Namchi, 22nd March (IPR): On the occasion of World Water Day, the State Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (SIRDPR), Rural Development Department, Government of Sikkim celebrated World Water Day at Karfectar, Jorethang.
The event was held under the aegis of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India.
Honourable Minister, Education Department Shri Kunga Nima Lepcha had graced the occasion as the chief guest. The program was also attended by Chairman IT Department Mr. Navraj Gurung, Chairman Farmers Board Mr. Phurden Lepcha, Director Panchayat DoPR Mr Tenzing D Denzongpa, Officials, Teachers and Students of different schools.
The program commenced with a welcome address by Mr Bishal Mukhia, Director, SIRDPR. He expressed his gratitude towards the guests and participants for their valuable presence.
Furthermore, Ms. Yangchen D Lepcha, Joint Director, presented a detailed overview of the role of SIRDPR, World Water Day, and other various campaigns related to water management that have been initiated by the department. She emphasized the need to work together to conserve water and protect our natural resources.
The chief guest in his speech emphasized the need to conserve water and spread awareness about its importance. He urged everyone to take a proactive role in this regard and work towards achieving a sustainable future for all.
To add more color to the celebration, a song, poetry, slogan and painting competition were organized among 6 schools from different districts. The participants showcased their talents and highlighted the importance of water conservation through their performances.
The program included a session to present awards and prizes to the three Gram Panchayat Units for their efforts to improve water conservation. Accordingly Yangthang Gram Panchayat under Gaylsing district stood first and received 1 lakh rupees in prize money.
Suldung Kamling under Soreng district stood second and received 50 thousand rupees,
Lindong Gram Panchayat unit under Mangad district stood third and received 20 thousand rupees.
There were numerous other categories for prize and award distribution, including best performing Junior Engineer (5000 each), barefoot Engineer (5000 each), and for school students song Competition, poem, painting, and slogan competition 5000, 3000 and 2000 for first, second and third place respectively.
